Poonam Pandey's first tryst with controversy (and fame) happened during the 2011 World Cup. A relatively unknown model otherwise, she found instant spotlight owing to her promise to strip if India won the World Cup. That promise, however, remained unfulfilled as she, reportedly, did not get the permission from BCCI to strip. As if her semi nude pictures were not creating enough buzz, she released video titled 'Bathroom Secrets'. The video was deemed too provocative for the Indian audiences and was blocked by Youtube. Poonam Pandey landed herself the ire of noted but controversial writer Taslima Nasreen over her "attitude is like underwear" tweet. Taslima Nasreen tweeted " “Poonam Pandey got naked but not satisfied. She wanna do dirtiest things none did before. Wants to get f****d in public!(sic)” to which Poonam replied "F*ck what people say... Do YOU. Some people will hate you for it, but it's the ones that love you for it that are more important". less Poonam Pandey was, once again locked in a war of words on Twitter and this time, it was actress Chitrangada Singh. “How do you compete with Poonam Pandey, when she is ready to strip for kabbadi matches? Though I have never met Poonam and no prsnl agenda, but guess she does her bathroom rituals everyday and in sometimes that involves striping,” (sic). Poonam lashed out at the actress saying "Its so funny how the people who know the least about you, have the most to say. Jealousy: That's what makes a b*tch talk." However, it was, reportedly, an imposter who had tweeted from a fake Chitrangada Singh profile. less The biggest controversy surrounding the model occurred when a morphed picture of hers featuring her in the nude, next to Sachin morphed as a Hindu God and a Pakistani cricketer bowing down to him appeared in a leading daily. The picture created a huge controversy in Kolkata with the Muslim populace protesting against it saying it hurt their religious sentiments. It took some pacifying from Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee and an apology from the newspaper to douse the situation
