Manisha Koirala’s entry into Bollywood came close on the heels of director Subhash Ghai’s stellar portrayal of a young, virtually unknown Madhuri Dixit back in the late ’80s, when he cast her opposite Anil Kapoor in ‘Ram Lakhan’.

The film became a hit and Bollywood had a new queen bee to rule her kingdom for the next decade.

Such has been Ghai’s prowess that over the years, many hopefuls have knocked on the Showman’s door to get a foothold in the industry, least of them being Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who hit stardom with ‘Taal’.

Ghai, who has 14 hit films to his credit from the 18 he has directed in his lifetime, is now set to launch his new find, with Mishti.

On the eve of his birthday, which the director celebrates on January 24, Ghai released a statement: “My hunt is over.”

The director/producer of Mukta Arts is directing his 19th film ‘Kaanchi’, slated for a 2013 release, with Mishti, a Bengali aspirant, making the cut.

Ghai said: “It is really a tough job to write a good script which, promises to be a blockbuster, as well as a great story with great characters, particularly the protagonist and the tougher job is when you decide to pick up a newcomer to play the title role instead of an established star.

“It was my very intense struggle to find a Kaanchi; I went on auditioning the most beautiful girls and the talented ones; around 350 girls were auditioned to get the right one, the way I had imagined in my script.”

He added that he saw a picture of a girl from Kolkata and decided to audition her.

“As I auditioned Mishti, I knew in the very first shot that she was the Kaanchi I was looking for,” he revealed. 

Starring opposite his new find is Kartik Tiwari, who has plays the lead in thesoon-be-released ‘Akaash Vani’.

While he last few outings on celluloid have bombed at the box office, including the Salman Khan-starrer ‘Yuvraj’, the director has already signed on the superstar for his 20th outing, which will go on the floors next year.

The photoshoot is done by the celeb photographer Dabboo Ratnani. Varun with his new worked-up body gets to flaunt his torso in these stills. The promising lad looks confident and is at ease in front of the camera, but surprisingly Varun’s mom doesn’t like him flaunting his bod. The actor says he wouldn’t do it (taking the shirt off) again because his mother gets really angry.
Sonakshi Sinha, on the contrary, has a playful demeanor throughout the photoshoot. Thankfully, this time she is sharing screen space with a man of her age. Even if it’s for a fashion photoshoot, we like the two for bringing a whiff of fresh air. Together they are flirty, romantic and look sizzling in these stills, and who knows they might romance in some forthcoming film.
As for now the two are busy with their respective projects. Sonakshi has five movies in her kitty — Lootera, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai 2, Bullet Raja, Rambo Rajkumar and the Thuppakki remake. The heartthrob Varun Dhawan has also signed an Ekta Kapoor film recently.

The man behind the encounter Isaque Bagwan recalls how his life was under threat after killing Manya Surve

The makers of Shootout at Wadala have revealed the first look of one of the characters played by John Abraham. John plays the character of Manya Surve, the first educated Hindu gangster whose reign of terror in the area of Agar Bazaar in Dadar. On 11th January, 1982, Bombay witnessed its first ever police encounter outside Wadala College when police squad led by Isaque Bagwan shot Manya Surve point blank.
 Actor Anil Kapoor, will play supercop Isaque Bagwan in Sanjay Gupta's 'Shootout At Wadala', When this reporter had met Bagwan few years ago, he recalled how his life was under treat after he killed Manya Surve. “After killing Manya Surve in an encounter, I used to receive threats from his associate Sheikh Munir who would call the crime branch with bogus names and ask for me. Then one day, he asked me to come to Mumbai Central where he tried to kill me.”

And the threats didn’t stop there and his family was also under treat. He recalls, “Criminals landed up at my house and told my wife that I had met with an accident near Regal theatre when actually I was out of town. I had gone to Mangalore to arrest some criminals who had escaped from our custody. I had instructed my wife to never open the door to any stranger. So when she saw two people she didn’t know, she called my office and was told that I was not in town.”

Ajay Devgn is all geared up for his next release ‘Himmatwala’ and has put on his dancing shoes for the popular track ‘Tathaiya Tathaiya’.

Directed by Sajid Khan, the duo has left no stone unturned to recreate the aura of the original song and give their audiences a chance to relive the magic which was created by Superstar Jeetendra and Sridevi back in the 80’s.

Devgn who is now quite comfortable with dancing was seen enjoying the shooting and said ‘It is one of the most popular numbers from the 80’s. Right from the sets to the costumes and the choreography, everything has been perfectly recreated.”


When quizzed Sajid Khan about the comparison which people would make between the original  and his version he said  “I want people to make comparisons because I have done justice to the original. Of course, it will be unfair to compare Ajay to Jeetendra especially since Jeetendra’s image as a dancer was strong at that time.”  Farah Khan who has given the dance moves went on to say “I was not sure whether Ajay would be able to match Jeetendra’s steps, but the entire unit broke into applause after he gave his first take”

The song which is so picturesque was recently shot in Mumbai with Ajay Devgn and  Tamannaah.  UTV Motion pictures have acquired the rights of the original song from Saregama and they are quite happy with the association. In fact Head of Music at Saregama India Ltd Adarsh Gupta said that “Saregama is looking forward to the association with versatile Director Sajid Khan and Disney UTV for their upcoming block-busters. Together we will revive the very happening era of music from the 80s”

Chopra recently lashed out at Mamata Banerjee for suggesting that girls who wear short clothes provoke rapes. "It is not true that short clothes provoke rapes and that women with full clothes don't get raped.
